Introduction
Hi there! My name is Cleo, and I’ve created this website for people who are simply interested in musical theater. Whether you’re a current high school or college student, or maybe further into adulthood, this guide is for you! It’s never too late to learn something new and/or pick up a new hobby.
GOALS
My ultimate goals with this guide are to educate you on what musical theater does for the human experience, and hopefully encourage you to start (or continue!) a pursuit of participation in this community, whether as a performer, creative, or an audience member!
IS THIS GUIDE FOR YOU?
I have curated this guide to be used by all backgrounds, as long as you can use a touchpad or scroll on a phone, this website will engage you! Honestly, I have narrowed a focus in capturing a younger audience, because I’d like to inspire people my age who are in their era of exploring and building their interests, but this process is considerably timeless!
LET’S GET STARTED!
As a current member of the musical theater community - beginning with my elementary school days - I have organized three chapters that will take you through this guide. Each includes knowledge pulling from my personal experiences, primary research, and secondary research from credible sources in the community. On the course page, I have included videos, images, graphics, and texts to appeal to whatever kind of learner you are! Take your time, learn, and break a leg!
A little piece of my own experience back in April of 2024. I performed “Waiting” as Alice Beineke in The Addams Family at Kaimuki Performing Arts Center. This role challenged my comfort zone extremely and pushed me to develop new literacies, such as expanding my vocal range and harnessing confidence in “weird” or “quirky” characters.
